Week 9 of 14
Isaiah in one sweep
Days 57 to 63: Ecclesiastes 7 to Jeremiah 4, 84 chapters.
Ecclesiastes reaches its conclusion: fear God and keep his commandments. Song of Solomon is love poetry between a bride and her beloved. Then comes Isaiah, the longest prophet you will read in one stretch: six days. The first half warns Judah and the nations; the second half, from chapter 40, speaks comfort to people in exile. Watch for the child in chapters 7 and 9, and the suffering servant in chapter 53, whom the New Testament reads as Jesus. The week ends with Jeremiah's call as a young man.
Watch for the servant of Isaiah 53.
But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.Isaiah 53:5
