Week 11 of 14
Dry bones and the shorter prophets
Days 71 to 77: Ezekiel 31 to Zechariah 4, 83 chapters.
Ezekiel ends in hope: dry bones live again in chapter 37, and a new temple fills the closing chapters. Daniel is half stories (the fiery furnace, the lions' den) and half visions of kingdoms rising and falling. Then come most of the twelve shorter prophets, several in a single day. Hosea's marriage pictures God's faithful love for an unfaithful people. Jonah runs from God's mercy toward Nineveh. Micah asks what the LORD requires. Haggai and Zechariah encourage the people who came back to rebuild the temple.
Watch for the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37.
He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?Micah 6:8
